From time to time we've been asked to be involved in conferences relevant to the electricity market - as a speaker, or an exhibitor.

The following is a record of some of those events:

We've chosen to sponsor this industry conference, which is being held to coincide with the annual conference of the Association of Power Exchanges, which is being held the two days immediately beforehand in Sydney (as noted below).

APEx Conference 2008

In addition to our sponsorship of the NEMMCO Industry Conference (as noted above), we are also involved with the the Annual Conference of the Association of Power Exchanges (APEx), held in Sydney.

Tuesday
22nd July

Energy & Utility Summit 08

Our Managing Director spoke at the Australian Energy & Utility Summit 08 in Sydney, and touched on a number of points, including:
1)  The extremes of price volatility that were experienced over winter 2007 in the NEM
2)  The depressed prices that had been experienced in the NEM in winter 2008 (in contrast), at least up until that point!
3)  The recently released demand forecasts for NSW, as published by TranGrid; and
4)  Emerging concerns with respect to gas supplies in the NEM, particularly the increased demand likely under an Emissions Trading Scheme.

Wednesday
12th March

Queensland Energy 2008

Our Managing Director spoke at the Queensland Energy conference on the 12th March, specifically addressing the topic of price volatility in the NEM

To provide the basis of discussion during the conference, we focused our analysis solely on Queensland region (to make the topic more manageable).   In our review of volatility in the Queensland region, we focused specifically on 3 core attributes of the market:
1)  Queensland dispatch prices;
2)  NEM-Wide Instantaneous Reserve Plant Margin; and
3)  the concept of “Economic Islands”.

This presentation generated a deal of interest in the press, and elsewhere.

A synopsis of the presentation is provided on WattClarity®, our industry commentary website.
