WATT CLARITY ® BLOG: Since early 2008, we have been have been blogging about the Australian energy market.  Some of the commentary provide useful examples of how our software can be used.

"BEHIND THE SCENES" BLOG: Since May 2009, we have been blogging about issues relevant to our company (both strategic and tactical).  We hope that this commentary will provide you a true reflection of what we're like, and the way we work - the good bits, and the not-so-good bits.

In a nutshell, we're interested in people who have both capability and commitment to help us to:
1)  Sustainably grow the number of clients we serve; and
2)  Increase the number of ways in which we serve our existing clients;
3)  Whilst always ensuring we continue to delight our existing clients with the products they currently licence.

Michael Masterton calls these people "intrapreneurs" in his book "Ready Fire Aim".

With only a small team of people, we have been able to grow our client-base to the stage where we now delight hundreds around the world.  Our revenues from recurring software sales has consistently grown each year since the company was formed, as shown here:

We reinvest these revenues to deliver:
1)  Refinements to the existing products that have delivered these revenues; and
2)  New products that can meet related needs of existing, and potential new, clients.

In late 2007 we made a couple of changes to facilitate the next stage in our growth:
1)   We moved to a larger office (in Milton, Brisbane); and
2)   Ramped up our Employee Share Ownership Scheme.

Our clients (including some very large Australian and international companies) have entrusted us with the responsibility to provide them timely and understandable information about the electricity market.

We need to be sure that you can help us to continue to earn that trust.  How can you demonstrate this to us?

INTENT

We're in this business as we really do want to make the electricity market understandable to everyone (not just to an exclusive "old boy's club").

The next 20 years augur major challenges for the electricity supply industries in developed countries and, by extension, across whole economies (we're not just thinking about moves to a carbon-constrained world, either!).   To get where we are going, we really do need to have information broadly accessible and understandable.

CAPABILITIES

Being a software company, it would come as no surprise that one of the core capabilities we require is the ability to develop great software.

By "great software", we mean that it's software that can be used by a broad range of real people, in real world situations.

However, it's not limited to just this.

To successfully democratise the electricity market we need to ensure that our software can be widely used - not only that it makes the electricity market understandable to many, but also that these potential clients know how we can help!

Hence, we're interested in hearing further from you if you can help us access this "Long Tail" of potential clients.

Yes, in case you had noticed, these characteristics are as defined in Stephen M. R. Covey's book "The Speed of Trust".   We've included them here as the sum up exactly what we're looking for!

NOTE that we're firm believers in the philosophy of continuous learning and development and thus are continually reviewing a wide range of business-related materials to see how they can be applied in our situation.  This book is one of many we have read - some of which are reviewed on our blog.
